Artist Bio

When Jim Cash was gifted his first guitar at age 19, he had no idea that he would become a prolific songwriter. In fact, his first guitar sat in a corner for months collecting dust before he decided to make his first attempts at playing a few chords. After later studying classical guitar, contemporary fingerstyle, rock and jazz, Jim was drawn to the songwriting craft. Inspired by poets such as Whitman, Emerson, Thoreau, and Rumi and lyricists such as Robert Hunter, Bob Dylan and John Lennon, Jim’s writing evolved into an eclectic combination of musical genres with visceral and thought-provoking lyrics.

Jim met his wife Ashley in 2002 while both were attending George Mason University in Fairfax, VA. Ashley had been playing guitar and singing at local coffee houses since she was 15-years-old. “When Jim played some of his original songs for me, I was astounded,” says Ashley. “The music that he had been writing was fantastically well-crafted; both melodically and lyrically. When Jim invited me to sing his music, I was overjoyed at the opportunity to add my own artistry to such beautiful material.” Ashley’s powerful voice and evocative performances are the perfect complement to Jim’s writing.

Jim and Ashley released their first EP, Jim & Ashley Cash & Friends (available on itunes and CD Baby) in November of 2006.

In 2008, Bassist, Franz Kellner joined Jim and Ashley to form the beginnings of Woven Green. Not-your-typical bassist, Franz offers a progressive edge contributing melodic counterpoints, African rhythms, unison and harmony lines, and performances on both the fretted and fretless bass. Franz’s unique approach to the bass highlights the truly original sound of Woven Green.

The completion of the group came with female drummer, Zujey D’Jesus in August of 2009. Originally from Venezuela, Zujey came to the states in 2001 with an extensive background in Latin music. Fueled with an insatiable passion for the drums, Zujey artfully combines various styles of drumming such as rock, heavy metal, reggae, and latin. She is also a gifted vocalist and additionally contributes strong and tonally rich backing vocals. Zujey’s passion and musicianship provides the unifying pulse to Woven Green’s eclectic sound.
